Here’s today’s Bottom Line
The late-season Bermuda high pressure ridge will weaken today and allow tropical moisture to lift northeast into the area by this afternoon. Meanwhile, a frontal system will push into the area this afternoon and stall. Combined with the tropical moisture in place, this is the perfect setup for the development of showers and thunderstorms.
Heavy rainfall is possible late this afternoon through this evening across some portions of the area, especially if you’re traveling toward Lumberton or Elizabethtown.
No severe weather is anticipated today or tonight.
The front lingers over the area into Sunday. Waves of low pressure are expected to ride along the front, bringing periods of soaking rain to the area throughout Sunday into Sunday night.
There is a slight risk for excessive rainfall on Sunday which could lead to flash flooding.
Storm total rainfall amounts could be rather impressive, especially where convective bands become established. Model blends are showing rainfall amounts in the 3-4 inch range across the county.
Finally on Monday a rather beefy cold front will shove everything offshore. This will rapidly end the rain threat and bring rather chilly air to the area for the middle part of the week.
TROPICS: No tropical systems at this time.
