2/2/22 Daily Sports Wrap Up 

NFL: Super Bowl LVI (56) is Feb 13 at 6:30pm, in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium.  

Brian Flores, former Miami Dolphins head coach and recent candidate for the New York Giants and Broncos filed a lawsuit against the NFL for improper hiring practices and discrimination. “I deal in truth,” quotes Flores on his accusations. 

The Washington Football Team, formerly the Washington Redskins, are now the Washington Commanders. Two seasons after the team dropped the Redskin moniker due to continual public pressure, the club has announced the new name and logo. The color scheme will remain the same with burgundy red and gold as the primary colors. 

Jimmy “G” Garappolo of the San Francisco 49ers is going to be on the free-agent market and has stated that he wants to land on a winning team with weapons to get to the Super Bowl. Jimmy G is hoping, Washington Commanders, Denver Broncos, or the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

NBA Last Night:  The Pistons lost the Pelicans 110-101 

Wizards fall to the Bucks 112-98. Giannis Antetokounmpo is now 18th on the all-time list for triple-doubles with 29, surpassing Michael Jordan. Giannis finished the game with 33 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists. 

Heat cannot handle the Raptors and lose 110-106. That is Miami’s third loss in-a-row. 

Magic versus the Bulls 126-115 

Nuggets beat the Timberwolves 130-115 

The Spurs lost to the Warriors 124-120 

Nets and Suns 121-111. That makes it 11 straight wins for Phoenix. Devon Booker finished with 35 points and 6 rebounds, Mikal Bridges had 27 points and 8 rebounds and Chris Paul ended the game with 20 points and 14 assists for the Suns. Kyrie Irving had 26 points, James Harden scored 22 points and 10 assists and Blake Griffin had 17 points and 6 rebounds for Brooklyn. 

Tonight:  Charlotte is in Boston. Tip-off is 7:30pm

Yesterday:  Penguins lost to the Capitals 4-3 in overtime 

Jets fall to the Flyers 3-1 

Sharks got struck down by the Lightning 3-2 in overtime 

Maple Leafs banish the Devils 7-1 

Bruins beat the Kraken 3-2 

The Panthers get hunted down by the Rangers 5-2 

Senators lost to the Islanders 4-1 

The Predators get the Canucks 4-2 

Flames burn the Stars 4-3 

Coyotes end up on top of the Avalanche 3-2 in a shootout 

Golden Knights  beat the Sabres 5-2

NCAA Men’s Basketball Yesterday:  The Davidson Wolfpack takes care of St. Bonaventure 81-76 

The North Carolina Tar Heels are in Louisville 90-83 in overtime. Armando Bacot finished with 19 points and 22 rebounds, Brady Manek had 24 points and Caled Love ended with 16 points for the Tar Heels. 

Tonight:  Longwood travels to UNC Ashville 6:30pm 

Western Carolina hosts East Tennessee State 7pm 

Pittsburgh versus Wake Forest 7pm ESPN2 

Virginia Military is at UNC Greensboro 7pm 

Temple goes to Eastern Carolina at 7pm 

Syracuse and North Carolina State 9pm 


Local Sports: 

Girls Varsity Basketball:  Pender falls to Whiteville 65-19 and the Lady Wolfpack stays unbeaten in their conference. The Vikings host Whiteville on Friday. 

West Columbus gets their first win of the season and beat South Columbus. 

Heide Trask beats East Columbus 43-35 

Boys Varity Basketball:  Pender travels to Whiteville hangs on to win a close one 59-53. Some clutch free throws helped seal the deal at the end. Double-double for Wolfpack’s Kyan Ganus with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Whiteville is now 14-3 and 6-0 in their conference. The Wolfpack travels to West Columbus on Friday. 

South Columbus lost in West Columbus 72-43 

East Columbus falls to Heide Trask 56-46. Rematch tonight at 7:30pm at Heide Trask
