Bonnie Sellers Strickland, age 78, of the Smyrna Community of Whiteville, NC went to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 12, 2022 in Columbus Regional Healthcare System with her family by her side. She was born May 1, 1943 in Columbus County, NC the daughter of the late Samuel Owen Sellers and Leta Pearl Sellers and the widow of Robert Strickland to whom she was married to for 36 years.
She was a graduate of Whiteville High School and Southeastern Community College. She retired from Columbus Regional Healthcare System as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. She served her community for over 40 years as a compassionate healthcare worker. Bonnie loved the outdoors and nature. She enjoyed deer hunting, fishing on the family farm and turkey shoots. Other interests of hers were collecting cast iron pans, going to fleas markets, auctions, along with genealogy, crocheting, playing piano, painting and yard work. She was a true woman of faith who loved Jesus and reading the Bible. She attended and was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Terry Strickland (Lynn) and Rev. Jackie Strickland (Martha); her daughters, Robin Thompson (Rex) and Janie Strickland (special friend, Michael Willard); her grandchildren, Brandon Robert Strickland, Joshua Brant Strickland, Anthony Robert Strickland (Amber), and Walker Dale Thompson (Lillian); step-grandchildren, Ashley Michelle Johnston (Joy), Caitlyn Renee Locklear (Angus); her great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Elizabeth Strickland, Colt Allen Strickland, Kenleigh Nicole Thompson, Kamden Rex Thompson; step, great-grandchildren, Morgan Caroline Locklear, Gunner Tuff Locklear and Waylon Knox Locklear; her sister, Bertha Rose Floyd (Ray).
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Ashley Kendell Hunt; her step-grandson, Christopher Wayne “CJ” Fowler, Jr.; and her sister, Beulah Francis Clifton.
Her visitation will be held Monday, March 14, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Peacock Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Smyrna Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Kinlaw and Rev. Aaron Jeffords officiating. Burial will follow in the Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery.
