3/12/22 Daily Sports Wrap Up 

MLB: Another change made to the game for the 2022 season is taking away the runner on second base in the start of extra innings. The All-Star game will not go into extra innings, it will be decided by a homerun derby. 

Clayton Kershaw signs a one-year deal to stay in Los Angeles. 

NFL: Titans quarterback Deshaun Watson will not face any criminal charges for alleged sexual misconduct. However, there is still 22 civil cases pending against Watson. Watson and Tennessee are now able to resume football activity and possible trades. The Carolina Panthers are one of the teams that have reported interest in the quarterback. 

NBA Last Night: The Spurs beat the Jazz 104-102 last night giving head coach Greg Popovich his 1, 336 wins in his coaching career. That puts Popovich in the top spot all time as the most winningest coach in the NBA, passing his mentor Don Nelson. 

The Pelicans lost to the Hornets 142-120. Charlotte scored 81 points in the second half to easily beat New Orleans last night. Miles Bridges ended the game with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists; LaMelo Ball finishes with 17 points and 9 assists, he also passed his 2000-point milestone; Terry Rozier scored 25 points for the Hornets. Charlotte is back on the floor Monday versus the Thunder at 8pm. 

Timberwolves lost to the Magic 118-110 

Clippers fall to the Hawks 112-106 

Pistons cannot handle the streaking Celtics 114-103. That is five straight for Boston. 

Cavaliers get burned by the Heat 117-105 

Mavericks buck the Rockets 113-110. Luka Doncic scores 34 and grabs 14 rebounds for Dallas. 

Grizzlies take down the Knicks 118-114. New York blows a 15 point plus lead for the 15th time this season. That leads the league. Ja Morant finishes with 37 points and 8 assists for the Grizzlies. 

The Jazz lost to the Spurs 104-102 

Raptors defeat the Suns 117-112 

Wizards get beaten by the Lakers 122-109. LeBron James scores 50 points for the second straight home game and carries Los Angeles to the win. Former Laker Kyle Kuzma had 23 points for the Wizards.

Warriors hosting the Bucks 8:30pm ABC

NHL: The Hurricanes are back on the ice this afternoon hosting the Flyers at 3pm in the PNC Arena. The game will be nationally televised on ABC. 

Yesterday: Wild versus the Blue Jackets 3-2 in a shootout 

Penguins beat the Golden Knights 5-2 

Jets fall to the Islanders 5-2  

Capitals defeat the Canucks 4-3 in overtime

NCAA Men’s Basketball: Selection Sunday is this week at 6pm on CBS, with the first games starting Tuesday March 15. The NCAA Championship game will be April 4 in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Yesterday:  Davidson 74-56 over Fordham 

Duke survives another late push by an opponent and holds off Miami 80-76. AJ Griffen led Duke with 21 points and Paolo Banchero gets a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils. Duke moves on to the Finals in the ACC Tournament versus Viginia Tech at 8:30pm on ESPN. Virginia Tech beat North Carolina 72-59. Armando Bacot had a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Tar Heels. 

Coppin State beat North Carolina Central 79-73 

Today: Davidson plays Saint Louis 1pm CBS Network 

Virginia Tech versus Duke 8pm ESPN 

NASCAR Xfinity Series continues today in Phoenix 4:30pm on FS1 and MRN. 

NASCAR Cup Series: Next up for the Cup Series is the Ruoff Mortgage 500 at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale. The engines are scheduled to start Sunday at 3:30pm with TV coverage on FOX. 

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is back at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 19 at 2:30pm. 

Local: Dixie Youth Baseball registrations are going on right now through April 1, for ages 13-14 at the Whiteville Parks and recreation building. You must bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate when registering. The price is 15 dollars for city residents and 25 dollars for county residents. 

T-Ball registration is currently underway through March 18 at the Whiteville Parks and Recreations building. T-Ball is for players 4-6 years old. A birth certificate is required at registration. Your child cannot turn 7 years old during the season and be 4 years old before the season starts. The cost is 15 dollars for city residents and 25 dollars for county residents. 

Varsity Boys Baseball: The Whiteville Wolfpack game versus Midway has been postponed. Next game is on the road Tuesday versus St. Pauls. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm. You can catch the away game updates on Kool 103.9 FM radio and streaming at www.Kool1039Radio.com
