3/21/22 Daily Sports Wrap Up
NASCAR Cup Series: The Checkered flag was taken by the #12 Chevrolet driven by William Byron, followed by the #7 Chevy of Ross Chastain. Kurt Bush and his #9 Toyota grabbed the third spot in The Folds of Honor 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. There were 11 caution flags for 65 laps. Byron’s average speed was 126.586 in the win and won by .145 seconds. There was 46 lead changes amongst 20 different drivers. The race took 3 hours, 57 minutes and 14 seconds. The EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix is up next at the Circuits of Americas in Austin, Texas. Green Flag drops at 3:30pm and is on FOX TV.
NASCAR Xfinity Series: The Xfinity Series Nally Cars 250 ended in an overtime red flag at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Ty Gibbs was awarded the checkered flag. Austin Hill took second place and A.J. Allmendinger grabbed third place. The Pit Boss 250 is up next in the Xfinity Series on Saturday at Circuits of Americas in Austin, Texas at 4:30pm on FS1.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series: Corey Heim got his first truck series win In Atlanta. Heim got a good jump on the white flag restart and was able to get a push by teammate John Hunter Nemechek to pass Ben Rhodes on the final lap for the win. Ty Majeski finished in third. The Camping World Truck Series is back March 26, at Circuits of Americas at 1pm
NHL Yesterday: The Hurricanes got shutout by the Rangers 2-0. Rangers took only 18 shots in the win. Frederik Andersen was in net for the Hurricanes and stopped 16 of the 17 shots on him. The Rangers put in an empty net goal at the end of the game. Carolina is back on the ice looking to get back in the win column against the Lightning tomorrow night. The puck drops at 7pm in the PNC Arena. The Hurricanes are 41-15-5 and sit in first place in the Metropolitan division.

Stars beat Capitals 3-2. Ovechkin gets his 40th goal of the season in the Capitals win.

Boston University defeats UNC Greensboro 71-68
Duke takes care of Michigan State 85-76. Paolo Banchero scored 19 points and had 7 rebounds. Mark Williams, Wenell Moore Jr and Jeremy Roach each had 15 points for Duke. The Blue Devils play Thursday night versus Texas Tech. The game is scheduled for 9:39pm, yes 9:39pm. North Carolina plays UCLA Friday night at 9:39pm. Saint Peter’s looks to continue their Cinderella story as they face Purdue 7:09pm on Friday night.
The NCAA Championship game will be April 4 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Local Sports: Dixie Youth Baseball registrations are going on right now through April 1, for ages 13-14 at the Whiteville Parks and recreation building. You must bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate when registering. The price is 15 dollars for city residents and 25 dollars for county residents.
