Coastal Horizons will soon be offering mental health services in Columbus County in a very unique way. The non-profit organization will launch a mobile clinic complete with the latest technology and a professional dedicated staff committed to serving the communities wherever they travel.

The plans for the office on wheels are not yet finalized or complete, but the organization hopes to offer mental health services on a rotating schedule in both Columbus and Brunswick counties by determining where needs in each area need to be met the most.

“We won’t be responding to emergencies, but we want people to know that services will be close by in the community,” said Kenny House, Vice President of Clinical Services.

The unit is being funded by federal and state dollars contracted through Trillium Health Resources, but the ultimate goal to eventually make it self-sustainable with billable services. Coastal Horizons will target key areas and set a regular schedule for individuals to be able to access care.

“We feel that this is essential to Columbus County residents whose needs aren’t being met by expanding expertise into mobile care,” said House.

There are still many details to be worked out before the launch, but House says that they hope to have a phone number in place for patients to call once they have hammered down the places and times where the unit will be.

Coastal Horizons promotes healthier lives, stronger families, and safer communities by providing a broad range of effective services for treating substance abuse, mental healthcare, crisis intervention, and wellness services to persons in need. As a nationally accredited, non-profit corporation, they provide services in more than half of the one hundred counties in North Carolina.

The organization recently opened a new office at 110 Premier Plaza in Whiteville. At the opening, House said Coastal Horizons had four main goals in mind. They want to provide community partnership, have a professional staff and services, give patients reliable access to services, and tailor those services to the needs of the community.
