Shirley Tedder Burroughs passed away after a long-term disability at Tabor Commons Assisted Living on Monday April 4, 2022 at the age of 84. A life long resident of Columbus County, Shirley was born on March 6, 1938 in Whiteville, NC. Shirley was employed as a cosmetologist in Whiteville during her early adult life. Then later she was a stay-at- home mom and a homemaker for many years. In her later adult years, she worked as a teaching assistant and school bus driver at Williams Township School. She will be lovingly remembered by many friends and family including her surviving sons, Layne (Lora) and Brett (Shawn) Burroughs, and sister, Judy (David) Hawley. Shirley will be remembered fondly by her seven grandchildren, Cameron, Reagan, Luke, Ashleigh, Piper, Indiana and Trinity. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Burroughs, father, Julius Tedder, mother, Maggie Tedder, brothers, Eugene, Charles and Dean Tedder.
The family will receive visitors at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville, NC on Friday evening April 8, 2022 at 6:00 pm. A funeral service in memory of Shirley will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Lebanon United Methodist Church on highway 701, south of Whiteville, with Ricky Parker officiating and Barry Drum and Jim Stutts assisting. Graveside service will follow in the Lebanon United Methodist Cemetery adjacent to the church building.
