One man was injured when a blockage in a dust collector caused an explosion at North Carolina Plywood in Whiteville Tuesday. The business is located on East Main Street.

Whiteville Police reported that the explosion occurred at 7:15 a.m. in the facility on East Main Street.

An earlier report based on the Whiteville Police log said the explosion occurred at HERR Environmental. Duncan Briley of Herr said the incident was not at the Herr facility.

The worker was trying to clear a blockage at the plywood plant when the explosion occurred, City Fire Marshal Hal Lowder said.

The worker was transported to Columbus Regional with second degree burns, Lowder said, but his injuries did not appear life threatening. The Whiteville Police report identified the worker as James Harrelson, 42.
