David Lenu Wise, age 61, of Delco, NC, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Duke University Hospital surrounded by his wife and his children, He is forever healed today and now walking the beautiful streets of gold with Jesus. David was born on March 28, 1961 to the late Tylon Franklin Wise Sr. and Bonnie Burney Wise in Columbus County. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother; Tylon Franklin Wise Jr.
David retired as a shift supervisor from International Paper. On September 16, 2018, he was given the precious gift of two new lungs and a heart. We will be eternally grateful to the donor and their family for this gift that gave us a few more years with David. Unfortunately, he had to fight for his life from the start of the transplant and he fought to the very end, July 23, 2022. He was the strongest man we’ve ever known, but his body just couldn’t take anymore.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years; Sherry DeVane Wise, two daughters; Krystle C. Cochrane of Leland, NC and Kaitlyn M. Mitchell (Andrew) of Clinton, NC, a son; David Tanner Wise of Leland, NC, a sister; Janet Simmons of Delco, NC, his father in law; Hybert DeVane of Winnabow, NC, his step father; Irvin Brown of Southport, NC, his uncle; Herbert Swain of Sunset Harbor, NC, grandchildren; Kylie, Aiden, Tylon, Bryce and Olivia “Livy”, and a large loving extended family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Bridge of Life Community Church, 2220 Mercantile Dr., Leland, NC with Rev. Jerome Bullard officiating. Burial will follow in the Virginia Bullard/Rogers Cemetery, Delco, NC. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the church.
