Maxie Oliver “Max” Hammond, 69, died Friday, July 15, 2022 in Columbus Regional Hospital, Whiteville, NC. He was born July 18, 1952 in Mullins, SC, a son of the late Weldon Charles Hammond and Ethel Brown Hammond.
Max was a banker for 44 years, starting his career with Waccamaw Bank and retiring from First Citizens Bank. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. His love of golf and his friends led to him playing in the same foursome for 30 years with Rod Formyduval, Chris Long, and Keith Long.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Harrelson Hammond of the home; one son, Justin Oliver Hammond of Sunset Beach, NC; two brothers, Weldon Charles (Elizabeth) Hammond, Jr. of Mullins and Ricky Stephen (Myra) Hammond of Nichols; a sister, Brenda Hardwick (Greg) Arnette of Nichols; and one grandson, Jax Oliver Hammond.
