Ministries Set Golf Tourneys

A golf ball and golf club

Two Christian organizations are going to be out playing on the greens in the coming weeks, and it’s all in the name of charity.

Bold and Beautiful Wigs for Cancer and the Columbus Baptist Association will be holding their annual golf tournaments to raise money for their ministries.

Bold and Beautiful Wigs for Cancer has paired with the Tidewater Golf Club to bring a fun-filled day to supporters all in the name of wigs and cancer patients. The organization was started by Marlisa Small, a 32-year cancer survivor. Her ministry gives out free wigs to chemo patients.

Small started the non-profit in 2010 after recovering from a radical hysterectomy from Stage Four cervical cancer.

“I said Lord, please let me live through this, and if you do, I’ll do everything I can to help people facing this just like me,” said Small.

Ties for Bold and Beautiful Wigs for Cancer reach far and wide, and though the price tags can range anywhere from $180-$600 per piece, it costs nothing for the recipient. The Donayre Cancer Center in Whiteville regularly sends women and children to Small to be fitted for hair.

Her event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the club. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., and the four-person scramble tournament will begin at 9 a.m. The cost is $150 per player, and includes a round of golf, breakfast and lunch, prizes for top teams, and a reception at Joey’s Club House Grille. Four golf teams are still needed to fill empty slots.

An automobile donated by Bell & Bell Buick GMC is among the prizes up for grabs at the fundraiser for the hole in one. Other prizes will be handed out for par three closest to the pin, the longest drive, and overall team winner of the tournament. Also planned is a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, mulligans, and pay it forward. Sponsorships are still needed for the event, and the prices range from $100-$5,000.  The categories include hole sponsors, exclusive hole sponsors, breakfast and lunch sponsors, and event sponsors.

Tidewater Golf Club is located at 1400 Tidewater Dr., North Myrtle Beach. To participate in the tournament, or donate to Bold and Beautiful Wigs for Cancer, call 843.424.1638. Registration and sponsor forms are available at Marlisa’s Wig Studio and Day Spa at 1561 Highway 17 in Little River. The Christmas Toy Store will benefit from the Columbus Baptist Association golf tourney Sept. 10. (submitted)

The Columbus Baptist Association is well known for their Backpack for Buddies ministry, a program geared toward feeding children over the weekend who may not otherwise get a meal again until Monday morning at school. The CBA also sponsors an annual Christmas Toy Store.

The Toy Store helps parents and grandparents to afford to buy gifts for their children and grandchildren. The organization shops for toys, and then sells them to guardians referred to the CBA for dimes on the dollar.

The CBA will have their Toy Store Golf Tournament at the Land-O-Lakes Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 10. The morning round will begin with registration at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The afternoon round will have registration at 12:30 p.m. with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The cost is $240 per four-man team, or $60 per player.

A total of 22 teams per round are needed, and spots are still available.
