Dr. Dan Strickland is Southeastern Community College’s newest board member.
The former school superintendent of county schools was appointed by the Columbus County Board of Commissioners. Strickland was sworn in by Clerk of Superior Court Jess Hill at the Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, July 19.
Strickland is a graduate of West Columbus High School, Campbell University (BS in Social Science), and East Carolina University (certification in Art Education). He also holds degrees from UNC-Pembroke (Masters in Educational Leadership), East Carolina University (EDs. in Educational Leadership) and South Carolina State University (Doctorate of Educational Leadership).
He has more than 50 years of experience in the education field in Columbus County. Strickland was the former Superintendent of Columbus County Schools, and he served on the planning committee to obtain funds for the development of Columbus Career and College Academy.
Strickland worked with the countywide committee and SCC to obtain the grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation to start the technical curriculum at the Early College, which was originally housed on the Fair Bluff campus.
