Billy “Dog” Michael Gilliland, age 71 of Hallsboro, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the Lower Cape Fear Angel House in Whiteville.

“Billy Dog” as he was lovingly known, was born on March 1, 1951, in Columbus County, to the late Michael Matthew Gilliland and Velma Kathleen Long Gilliland.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Piney Forest Baptist Church, with Pastor Willard McPherson and Pastor Steven Cox officiating.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-3:50, prior to the service.

Mr. Gilliland is survived by his loving children, Michael Gilliland and wife, Annie, of Laurel Hill, Megan G. Cartrette and husband, Ashley, of Whiteville; grandchildren, Hannah Gilliland, Michael Matt Gilliland, Barrett Gilliland, Haley Cartrette, Ashton Cartrette, Greylynn Cartrette; great-grandson, Gabriel Gilliland; special friend, Carol West of Whiteville, and a multitude of very special friends.
