Two unrelated missing persons cases have turned into investigations with the discovery of the women’s bodies.
Candice Diaz, 33, was reported missing in the Calabash area earlier this week, according to the Brunswick Sheriff’s Office. Her body was found today (Thursday). Additional details on the death have not been released.
In Robeson County, Wendy Jones was reported missing from the Maxton area on Tuesday. She had not been seen since Aug. 12. Her dismembered body was found in a wooded area Wednesday, the Robeson Sheriff’s office said in a press release.
Glenn Locklear, 24, has been charged with murder and dismembering a body. Robeson Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said in a press release that the remains were identified by tattoos as described by her family. The remains were sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy and final identification.
Jones was the third woman murdered in Robeson this year.
“These horrific crimes shouldn’t be happening at all,” Wilkins said, “but to have three women brutally killed in our county at the hands of three different men within the last 10 months is appalling.
“These families need prayer but we also need action from the courts to remove these men from the general public. No woman should tolerate a man physically abusing them.”
The case is being investigated by Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division. The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina Security, N.C. State Highway Patrol Aviation Division, N.C. Trooper’s Association K9 Division, Queheel Volunteer Fire Department and Smiths Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the investigation.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 671-3100 or (910) 671-3170.
