Western Prong Baptist Church will be hosting the second annual Celebrate Recovery Golf Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Land-O-Lakes Golf Course in Whiteville.
Registration is at 10 a.m., and tee time is at 10:30 a.m. The costs to play is $60 per person, or you can sponsor a hole for $100. A snack and lunch are included. Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin and straightest drive.
Celebrate Recovery (CR) is a Christ-centered and Bible-based 12 step recovery program not only for drugs and alcohol, but for every “hurt, hang-up, or habit.” Meetings are held every Monday at the church starting at 7 p.m. with a meal served at 6 p.m.
The organization collaborates with the first responders of Columbus County including EMS, Whiteville Police Department, and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office to ensure that information about CR is accessible to the public. One of its major programs is to provide Bibles to inmates at the county detention center.
The golf tournament is the largest fundraiser of the year for CR. All monies raised go to the ministry.
“Proceeds from the fundraiser will defray the costs of Celebrate Recovery small group curriculum, devotions, and Bibles,” said CR Leader Darren Mills.
Donations for the tournament are also needed. Items include:
• Cases of water
• Cases of Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, and Diet Mountain Dew
• Dinner rolls and hot dog buns
• Mayonnaise
• Carolina Treat and hickory smoke BBQ sauces
• Paper plates and paper towels
• Bratwurst sausages
• Mustard, hot sauce, ketchup
• Large cans of Bush’s Baked Beans
