Whiteville Defeats East Columbus 52-0

Due to Hurricane Ian, who was making its way towards Columbus County, the Whiteville – East Columbus matchup was moved to Thursday night to avoid the storm.  Then a second change happened as a precautionary measure, and the game was moved from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

It was a crazy game from start to finish with a Whiteville Wolfpack first half offensive explosion, a head official wearing a bicycle helmet, and a crazy 2nd half that included a lot of standing around, extended play clocks, the dimming and flickering of the stadium lights, and gusty 20-30 mph wind throughout the game.

Between all this, JT Todd rushed for 3 Touchdowns. All within the first 14 minutes of the game.  Nallegen Powell rushed for 2 Touchdowns.  Cam McKvian rushed for a Touchdown as well.  And Quarterback Luke Odham, threw D.J. Shipman a Touchdown pass, all in the first half. At Halftime the Wolfpack led 49-0.

The 2nd half of the game started with a running clock due to the 42 point mercy rule. The only scoring in the 2nd half was a 26 yard field goal by Grayson Creech of the Wolfpack. It was obvious the officials were trying to help the East Columbus Gators get through the game as they were extending the play clock, and allowing a lot of “standing around” trying to get the clock to 0’s. All in all when the official stats are released, we should see very lopsided numbers.

For his performance, JT Todd was chosen as the Kool 103.9 FM player of the game.

This Friday Whiteville (5-1) prepares to meet Pender (3-2) for In-Conference action.  Kickoff is at 7:30 at historic Legion Stadium.
