Carl Edward Ray

November 24, 1932 ~ July 28, 2023 (age 90)

Carl Edward Ray, age 90, of Hallsboro, NC, went to meet his Heavenly Father on July 28, 2023.  He passed away peacefully at the Life Care Angel House Hospice Care Center in Whiteville, NC.

He was the son of the late Lloyd R. Ray and Lillie Smith Ray and was preceded in death by his wife; Yvonne Bennett Ray and four brothers; Robert Ray, Homer Ray, Dick Ray and Cameron Ray.

He was an active member of Hallsboro United Methodist Church.  He served two years in the U.S. Army at the Fort Benning, Ga. School of the Infantry from 1953-1955 with the Combat Engineers.  He was employed 11 years as a lab technician with Riegel Paper Corporation in Riegelwood, NC and later joined Waccamaw Bank and Trust Co. before working for Southern National Bank in Whiteville from 1969-1995, where he served as Vice President of Southern National Bank in downtown Whiteville.

Survivors include one sister; Mildred Ray Smith of Florence, S.C., sons; Carl Eric Ray (Cheryl) of Wilmington, NC, Glenn Allen Ray (Carol) of Lake Waccamaw, NC., daughters; Donna Ray Bullock of Hallsboro, NC., Celeste Ray Brummitt (Ricky) of Franklinton, NC, grandchildren; Alden Ray, Andelyn Ray, Hannah Bullock, Andrea Ray, Camryn Ray, Rachael Bullock and Addison Ray, and great grandchild; Bentley Ray, three sisters-in-law; Veneda Ray, Jolene Nalley and Emily Barton, brother-in-law; Elbert Smith and several nieces and nephews.  Other family members; Blake and Lacie Jacobs (McKenzie and Campbell), Johnny and Samantha Shore (Joshua, Emma and Raelyn), Gary and Stefanie Kuhn (Lynlee, Kolton and Grayleigh).  The family would like to thank Thetus Tatum, Erica Williams, Cindy Turner, Lucy Boswell, Lower Cape Fear Life Care and the many others who helped care for him.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 2:30 pm in the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel.  Burial will follow at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:15 pm prior to the service.
