Felony charges have been filed against an Evergreen man who allegedly assaulted his wife  for an “extended period of time,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim in the case, Amber Leigh Scott, was airlifted to New Hanover after she was transported to an area hospital. She was listed in critical condition.

Arrest records show that Christopher Scott, 34, was originally held under no bond on charges of assault inflicting serious injury, first degree kidnapping, and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. Bond was set at $2 million Wednesday. His address was listed as 198 Lover’s Lane, Evergreen, which was the location of the alleged incident.

The warrant says that Scott inflicted serious bodily injury by “hitting, kicking, cutting, choking, dragging, burning, and beating the victim with a closed fist, feet and various weapons.” Scott was also found in possession of a sawed-off Harrington and Richardson 12 gauge shotgun.

The sheriff’s office reported that a deputy responded to the home Tuesday to perform a welfare check on Mrs. Scott, 33, and three juveniles at the home. The Department of Social Services requested the visit, according to the report.

Mrs. Scott was inside the residence at the time of the visit, and Scott allegedly would not cooperate with deputies.

The children were removed from the home, and Scott was taken into custody. The husband allegedly admitted to investigators that he had assaulted her for an “extended” period of time.

Warrants and a brief synopsis received from the sheriff’s office referred to Mrs. Scott by her maiden name, and did not note that the couple is married.

Mrs. Scott’s aunt, Kathy Stone, has set up a GoFundMe account for her.
