Jesse Beck II will replace Dr. Jonathan Williams as assistant superintendent for Columbus County Schools.

Williams recently announced he is leaving the county to become the new superintendent of Whiteville City Schools.

“During his decades of service to our system, Dr. Williams has touched countless lives as a teacher, coach, and administrator,” the county schools said in a press release. “It is very difficult to see him go, but Columbus County Schools is grateful for his outstanding service.”

During its August meeting, the Board of Education chose Beck out of a wide field of applicants.

Beck has 27 years with the county, having served as teacher and coach at West Columbus, Chadbourn Middle assistant principal and principal, South Columbus High School’s principal,  and EC Director for the system. Beck obtained an Ed.S degree from East Carolina University.

“Mr. Beck will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position,” the release said. “In addition, his strong relationships, calm demeanor, and tireless work ethic will help move our district forward.’

Beck said he is looking forward to the new challenges as the second in command for the county system.

“I am truly honored and humbled to be named the Assistant Superintendent of Columbus County Schools,” he said. “I am profoundly grateful to have this opportunity to serve all of our children in this capacity. I am also mindful of the tremendous responsibility that comes with this position. I will continue to serve all stakeholders and will strive to uphold the values and meet the expectations that exist in my new role.”
