James Clark Bridgers

August 14, 1929 — August 15, 2023

James Clark Bridgers, 94, of Clarkton passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph “Joe” Washington Bridgers and Celia Mae Memory Bridgers; wives: Joan Britt Bridgers and Ellen Smith Bridgers; brothers: A.D., Sonny, Franklin Bridgers; sisters: Madee Batten, Dorothy Batten, Elizabeth Cheshire, Gloria Lupton, Edith Durden; son, Glenn Bridgers and grandson, John Channing West.

 

James leaves behind his daughters: Nancy Heustess and husband Jack of Clarkton, Tanya White and husband Randy of Whiteville, Tonya Sue Harrington and husband Tommy of Clarkton; brother, Bob Bridgers of Ocean Isle; grandchildren: Brittany Kelly (Kendal) of Elizabethtown, Dakota Lennon (Wesley) of Bladenboro, Howard Bridgers, Kristopher Bridgers and Joshua Harrington, all of Clarkton; great-grandchildren: Rayne Kelly, Sadie Kelly, Liam Lennon, Jaxson and Tuffton Bridgers.

James was an United States Army veteran who served in the Korean War where he received a bronze star for his service. He adored his family and the time spent with each of them. He was a jack of all trades from cooking to working on things even helping the Baptist Association build wheelchair ramps around the community. James was a talker and never met a stranger. His kind and giving personality will be forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

 

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Wednesday, August 16th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 17th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Priest officiating service. Burial will follow in the Clarkton Cemetery.
