June 23, 1963 – September 24, 2023
A legend has passed. Richard G. Milar, Jr. (RG), a man who dedicated his life in service of others, died on September 24, 2023.
From running EMS calls in the late 70s and 80s to kicking doors and keeping the peace with the Wake County Sheriff’s office, he was a force to be reckoned with. Those who knew him can agree he was slightly smarter and much funnier than most and was always there to lend a hand. Most importantly, he was an amazing husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who would do anything to help anyone.
RG was born in Wilmington on June 23, 1963 and graduated from Hoggard High School in 1981. He served the public with New Hanover Rescue, Ogden Rescue, Wake County EMS, Garner Rescue and Wake County Sheriff’s Department. RG is survived by his loving wife, Martha Scholl Milar, of Wilmington, his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Jonathan, Rebecca and Madison Milar, of Merritt Island, Florida, his sister and brother-in law, Kitty and Levi Spaven, of Wilmington, and countless friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 5820 Myrtle Grove Road, Wilmington. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Holy Cross Episcopal Church or Lower Cape Fear Life Care in his name.
