Turkey Shoots Begin Across Area

While live turkeys are no longer the targets of turkey shoots, the fellowship and fundraising surrounding these events are still popular.

Transformation Church will host a turkey shoot every Friday and Saturday through the month of November through Thanksgiving. Cost is $5 per shot. Food, cold drinks and hot chocolate will be available for purchase. The shoot will be at 9955 James B. White Hwy. South, Whiteville. Old Dock/Cypress Creek Fire Department will host a turkey shoot Nov. 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, and 20 through 22. Shooting starts at 7 p.m. Light bulb round is $2 per shot. On Nov. 21, there will be a special kids round for shooters 13 and younger. Prizes include merchandise such as coolers.

Aim High for a Kid’s Christmas is holding a turkey shoot in Clarkton every Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. through Dec. 9. A portion of the proceeds go to the Elf Angel fund and to help two young ladies fighting cancer. No alcohol is allowed. Only stock 12 and 20 gauge shotguns may be used, with barrels no longer than 36 inches. Competition chokes are also not allowed. Contact Chris Butler at 910.872.3321.

Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual turkey shoots every Friday and Saturday in November, with a bonus shoot Nov. 22. Stock guns with a maximum barrel length of 32 inches or less must be used. Competition starts at 7 p.m. at 10263 Old Hwy. 74, Evergreen.

Bolivia VFD will hold its shoots Nov. 11 and 25; Dec. 2 and 16; and Jan. 6 from 6-20 p.m. 12, 20 and .410 shotguns may be used. The fire station is at 160 Green Lewis Rd., Bolivia.

Tabor City Volunteer Fire Department will have their turkey shoot November 10 and 11, 17 and 18, and 20 through 22. Starting time is 6:30 nightly. Hot dogs, cold drinks, hot chocolate, and sausage wraps will be for sale. The shoot is located near Adam’s seafood.
