Calvin Leon Turner, age 88, of Whiteville, NC, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton, NC. Calvin was born in Person County, NC to the late John Calvert Turner and Louise Smart Turner. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife; Frances Brown Turner.
Calvin served his country in the United States Air Force and then worked as a Carman with Seaboard Railroad and then CFX for several years.
Left to cherish his memory are three sons; Calvin Leon Turner, Jr. (Beverly), Elliott Dean Turner (Robin) and Francis Neal Turner (Tracy) all of Whiteville, a sister; Dr. Linda T. Evans of Charleston, SC, grandchildren; Jessica T. Hughes, Michele T. Briley, Elliott Dalton Turner, Chase Turner, Nikki T. Long, and Justin Turner, and eight great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Western Prong Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:45 pm prior to the service.
