One person died and another was critically injured in a head-on crash that snarled traffic on White Marsh Monday evening.
The 5:45 p.m. crash occurred on Red Hill Road near the Whiteville city limits. Traffic was blocked on Red Hill, Jefferson Street, and Sam Potts Highway.
The deceased victim was identified as John Clyde Baldwin, 64. Connie Moore was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.
Vehicles were detoured to U.S. 74 for more than an hour before the roadway was cleared around 7:30 p.m.
The crash was the 16th fatality on area roads this year.
