Donald Barnes, 69, of Evergreen, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 30, 2023, while in the UNC Chapel Hill Hospital.
Donald was born on October 25, 1954, son of the late Albert Barnes and Hazel Beatrice Spivey Barnes. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Ronald Barnes; sister, Joyce B. Mazoo; nephew, Arthur Paul Cain; niece, Kenna Donielle Cain; father-in-law, Floyd Pittman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Evergreen Baptist Church, with Pastor Ricky Donaldson and Pastor Kevin Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 2:00-2:45 prior to the service on Sunday, at the church.
Some things Donald enjoyed in life were fishing with his wife (Janet), golfing with his buddies, eating at Abigail’s with his daughter and son-in-law (Stephanie and Richard), working on cars with his nephew (David), competing in drag car races, and keeping his grandchildren “straight”. He was an active member at his home church, Evergreen Baptist Church. He will be remembered by loved ones and friends as a loving guy always willing to lend a hand to anyone that may need help.
The surviving family includes his wife, Janet Pittman Barnes of the home; daughter, Stephanie Barnes Miller (Richard) of North Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Donald Thomas Miller, Morgan Ann Miller; sister, Deborah B. Cain (Kenny) of Lumberton; mother-in-law, Lola Pittman of Evergreen; brothers-in-law, John Pittman, Mitchel Pittman, David Pittman, all of Evergreen and Sidney Pittman of Lumberton; three nephews, eight nieces; several great-nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends.
