March 26, 1946 ~ December 21, 2023 (age 77)
James “Jimmy” Howell Lewis, age 77, of Whiteville, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Jimmy was born on March 26, 1946 in Columbus County to the late Bruce Gordon Lewis, Sr. and Frances Bruce Lewis. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister; Anne Lewis, brother; Bruce Gordon Lewis, Jr and niece; Lisa Horne.
Jimmy served his country in the United States Army. He was a craftsman in the area of making custom furniture. He loved playing tennis and was an avid golfer in his younger years. Jimmy even worked at a golf course in Aiken, SC as their assistant golf pro. He is most known in recent years for his many walks around Whiteville and his chats with neighbors along the way that will no doubt miss his interactions with them.
Left to cherish his memory are his niece; Lou Ann Butler (Revice) of Sunset Beach, NC, his nephew; Bruce Gordon “Gordy” Lewis III (Michelle) of Shallotte, NC and his sister in law; Betty Lewis of Little River, SC.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel at 2:00 pm with Rev. Darryll Hester officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:15 pm – 1:45 pm prior to the service.
