Jesse Lee “Big Jay” Godwin, 82, of Whiteville, died Friday, December 15, 2023, at Columbus Regional Healthcare System.
He was the owner of Godwin Communications, LLC (WENC Radio).
The funeral will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 20, at Brunswick-Waccamaw Baptist Headquarters, 600 Pinelog Road, Whiteville, NC, by Rev. Algernon McKenzie, eulogist, and Rev. Vinston Rozier, officiant. Burial will be in the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery #2.
Viewing will be at Peoples Funeral Chapel Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and at the Headquarters Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel McQueen Godwin; daughter, Tahitian McKenzie of Whiteville; sisters, Blonnie Nichols of Maryland, Irene Wilfork of Florida, and Gloria Godwin of California.
Due to the increase in communicable viruses, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be limited to phone calls and visits be made only at the funeral home during the visitation on Tuesday.
