Part of U.S. 74-76 at Chaunceytown Road at Lake Waccamaw will be closed Tuesday night while girders are moved into place for the new overpass.
The eastbound lanes will not be affected by the work, but there will be a series of intermittent closures on the westbound lanes at Chaunceytown through 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Andrew Barksdale of the N.C. Dept. of Transportation said there will be a continuous lane closure as well as intermittent closures on the westbound lanes during the overnight hours. Trucks will be unloading girders in the closed lane, and the entire westbound side will be closed while each girder is raised into place.
All four of the girders are expected to be put in place at different times between 11 a.m. and 6 a.m. The westbound closures will last around 30 minutes, and law enforcement will be controlling traffic in the area. Motorists are advised to use N.C. 214 during the overnight hours Tuesday.
