June 17, 1945 ~ March 21, 2024 (age 78)
Betty Jo Godwin Duncan, lovingly known as “Tobie”, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Whiteville, NC; she was 78 years old.
A native of the Beaverdam Community of Chadbourn, Tobie was born on June 17, 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Godwin and Clyde Ophelia Ward Godwin; sister, Barbara Ann Larrimore, and her husband, Richard John Duncan.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the McPherson Cemetery. Pastor Buddy Seay will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-2:45, prior to the service on Tuesday, at the church.
Tobie worked for 30 years with the Columbus County Court House, primarily in the Civil Department, retiring as the Assistant Clerk of Superior Court. She loved farming, gardening in her yard, and spending time with her family. Above all, Tobie was a devout christian lady, who loved the Lord with all her heart; she was a faithful member of Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she served in various roles over the years.
Survivors include two children, Wendell Duncan (Jackie), Richelle Grigsby (Brandon), all of Chadbourn; grandchildren, Luke, Madison, Ashdon, and Lilly; sister, Ila Pearl Shelley of Charleston, SC.
Flowers are welcome, but donations may also be made to the Lower Cape Fear Angel House of Whiteville, or to Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church.
