July 27, 1940 ~ March 10, 2024 (age 83)
Rev. Jerry Earl Powell 83, of Whiteville passed on Sunday, March 10, 2024 in Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House. He was born in Columbus County the son of the late Horace Graham Powell and Lillie Maybell Benton Powell.
In 1975 he became a missionary in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. He built schools, churches, orphanages, a medical center and homes. He founded a Fire Department there and provided a donated hearse and fire truck for the community. He was a member of Spring Branch Holiness Church and attended Faith Holiness Church for the last two years.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hardie Powell; a son, Mark Powell (Kathy) of Whiteville; a daughter, Sabrina Grant (Marty) of Whiteville; grandchildren, Lisa Fowler, Kevin Powell, Michael Powell, Jessie Powell, Chris Powell, Emily Cartrette, Natalie Memory, Kimberly Hunt, Ryan Powell, Nicole Burthalter; 19 great grandchildren; 4 nieces.
He was preceded in death his parents, a sister, Joyce Sellers and two sons, Michael Powell and Timmy Powell.
His life celebration service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fonzo Randolph, Rev. Jeff Sparkman and Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Burial will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park with Rev. Heath Conner and Rev. Michael Brown officiating.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Peacock Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Powell, Robert Cartrette, Zek Hunt, Logan Fowler, Owen Fowler, Richard Singletary and Kevin Powell.
