Wilbur Steve Burney

November 1, 1946 — March 11, 2024

Wilbur “Steve” Burney of Bladenboro, North Carolina was called home to be with his heavenly Father on March 11, 2024, at age 77. Steve was born to Wilbur Scott and Dottie Brisson Burney on November 1, 1946, in Bladen County.

Steve was a Christian, God fearing man who loved and served the Lord. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church.

He is survived by his first wife, Zalean Dowless of Bladenboro and their three sons, Stephen Patrick (Tracy), Jeffrey Lynn (Lori) and Kenneth Daniel, nine grandchildren, Jeffrey (Maranda), Stephanie (Eric), Megan (Adam), John Allee, Zachary (Grace), Jessica (Nico), Kasey, Allyson, and Carson and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his present wife, Traci Townsend Burney of the home and son Zachary Scott Burney and his two sisters, Darlina Edwards (JD) and Rebecca Martin (Leon).

Steve was the owner/operator of Burney Farms. He had always been known for his green thumb and his love of farming. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, his pet African grey parrot “Sam” and eating good food. He will always be remembered for his devotion to God, his family and his community.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 6-8 pm at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 15, 2024, in the Brisson Family Cemetery, across the road from 8492 NC 41 Hwy West, Bladenboro, NC. Family and friends are welcome.
