May 4, 1934 ~ May 6, 2024 (age 90)
Marilyn Hinson Smith 90, was born May 4, 1934, daughter of the late James Winslow Hinson and Scottie Fipps Hinson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Joe Thomas Smith, Jr. and a daughter, Teresa Smith Pool, also siblings Robert H. (Bob) Hinson, Edward and Winston Hinson.
Surviving family includes daughters, Kay Barnes of Lumberton, Dianne Smith of Whiteville, Jo Lynn Smith of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Mary Kate Batten (Chris) of Whiteville, N.C., grandchildren, Christy Thorndyke, Stephanie Smith (Joey), Nicole Gohs, Jennifer Nealey (Robert), Jessica McPherson (Austin), Christopher Lloyd (Lindsay), Thomas Batten (Dorothy) and Dr. Macelyn Batten, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great Grandchildren.
She was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church for 50+ years. Farming with and Co-owning/operating tobacco warehouses in Whiteville with her husband for 44 years. She was a wonderful homemaker raising 5 girls, while helping to operate the farm and tobacco warehouses in Whiteville. She is also known to many simply as “Ma Ma”.
Her funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday May 10, 2024 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dave Heller officiating. Entombment will follow in Columbus Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Her family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Peacock Funeral Home prior to her service.
