Prison officials and the Tabor City Police are investigating after an inmate apparently died by his own hand Sunday.
Steven Liddick was found unresponsive in his cell at Tabor Correctional around 3 a.m., according to the Dept. of Adult Corrections (DAC). Prison officers and medical staff provided first aid while EMS was en route, but Liddell was pronounced dead on the scene.
Liddell was placed in the prison system May 1, 2025 in Lincoln County.
TCPD is investigating the death, and DAC is conducting its own internal review.
