Motorcycle, Tractor Show and more. The parade is at 11 a.m. Columbus county News will be broadcasting the parade live on the CCN Facebook page.

A chicken bog plate sale supporting the CBA Columbus Baptist Wyoming Mission trips is June 1 at China Grove Baptist Church, 2903 Old Stake Road, Chadbourn. Plates are $10, and will be available from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Willing Vessels Ministries will hold a chicken bog benefit dinner June 1 at Murf’s Pawn on Madison Street in Whiteville. Proceeds will go to a local widow who is unable to work due to an extended illness. Plates will be $10, and pre-orders are encouraged. Red Hill Pentecostal Church will hold its annual Bike-A-Thon Saturday starting at 7 a.m. The ride follows a safe route to Lake Waccamaw State Park, where riders will enjoy a hot dog and hamburger cookout and swimming after the 13-mile trek. Bring a water bottle, insect repellant, sunscreen, snacks and swim gear. Everyone is welcome. The ride will start on Lena Dale Road Saturday at 7 a.m.

High school graduations are next week. East Columbus Seniors will observe baccalaureate Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Home Chapel. All seniors are invited to participate in the parade from Flemington Drive to Brinkley park, where there will be hot dogs, chips, drinks and game.

Graduation at West Columbus is June 7 at 6 p.m. South will be June 8 at 10 a.m., and East June 8 at p.m. Whiteville High will graduate June 8 at 9 a.m. Contact your school for tickets, since seating is limited. All ceremonies will also be livestreamed by the systems.

The Veterans Memorial Park will hold a flag retirement ceremony June 14 at the park. Anyone with an American flag that is no longer serviceable is welcome to attend and have their flag properly retired. The park is located on U.S. 701 South of Whiteville.

The Columbus County Community Farmers Market is now open for its regular season. Fresh produce and eggs, handmade items, seafood and more are available at the market every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. The market is located on Government complex Road, Whiteville. Spots are open for $15 each.

The market offers a Senior Program to help people over 60 years old. It provides fresh produce, local raw honey and herbs. If you are interested or know someone who might be, contact Selena King at the Farmers Market.

There will be a world missions fundraiser barbecue plate sale June 8 at the Ritz Center at Tabor City. Plates are $10, and whole butts are $40. You can preorder by using cashapp to Robert Nealy ( $rnealy40 ), or pay with cash or check the day of the sale. There will be special music by the Nealeys, Jonboy Walton, Steve Orr and more. All proceeds go to the Nealeys foreign mission programs.

Columbus County Parks and Rec will host a volleyball clinic at West Columbus school July 29-31 for girls ages six to fifteen. Cost is $30, including snacks. Online preregistration is open until June 5.

Registration is now open for the Lake Waccamaw swim clinic sponsored by parks and Rec and Lake Waccamaw State Park. Registration is open until all 50 spots are filled.

Peace Fellowship Church will have a booksale and storytelling lessons June 15 and 22. Hardbacks are $2 and soft covers $1. Thousands of books will be available. Proceeds go to the missions fund. The church is located at 5847 Red Hill Road, Whiteville.

Deputy Josh Cartrette is our Good Samaritan this week. Cartrette helped a couple out the other day when they needed gasoline en route to a doctor’s appointment in Whiteville. The couple sent the sheriff’s office a thank you note, which was shared on social media.

Any veteran of any time period, reserve or active duty, peacetime or war, can have a photo on the wall.

Lauren Richardson of South Columbus High and Dyiamon Robinson of East Bladen are the 2024 Trooper Kevin Conner Memorial Foundation Scholarship recipients. This scholarship was established to make college more affordable for deserving students from Columbus and Bladen Counties. Since 2019, the foundation has awarded over $50,000 in scholarships to qualified candidates.
