Charles Roberts, age 96, of Whiteville, entered his eternal rest peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Monday, August 12, 2024. Charles was born to the late Roy Roberts and Lizzie Lucas Roberts on February 29, 1928 in Pike County, KY. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife; Kathleen Roberts, a son; Charles W. Roberts, two stepsons; Craig Land and Chris Land.
Charles served his county in the United States Army. He was self employed in the food service industry, real estate and automobiles. He was a member of New Life Community Church.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters; Carol Graves (Ernie) of Goose Creek, SC and Margaret Day of Leesburg, VA, two sons; Clyde Northrop (Chrissy) of Rockville, MD and Gene Northrop (Maika) of Waldorf, MD, stepson; John Ricky Land of Whiteville, sister; Joanne Price (Kenneth), 14 grandchildren; Carolyn Jean Roberts, Terrie Sawyer, Brian Roberts, Robin Stern, Charles Lamm, Sara Roberts, Carol K. Mager, Lucian Ray Hammonds, Cary Northrop, Courtney Northrop, Erik Northrop, Craig Northrop, Chris Monasmith, and Kenny Day, 23 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at New Life Community Church, 107 Maultsby St., Whiteville, NC at 2:00 pm with Rev. Charles Cribb officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Columbus Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at McKenzie Mortuary and again on Saturday from 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm prior to the service at the church.
