Chase Endangered Toddler, Report Says

Kiheem Bell (CCSO)

The suspect who fled a traffic stop at high speed with an unsecured toddler in his car has been arrested.

Kiheem Raekwon Bell, 24, of Loris, S.C. was taken into custody Tuesday. He was charged with misdemeanor child abuse, fleeing to elude arrest, and multiple traffic violations. His bond was set at $10,000 secured, according to detention center records.

Bell was heading toward Tabor City May 11 in a Lexus automobile when a deputy attempted to stop him for a tag violation. The tag on the car appeared to be registered to a Subaru, the report said.

Bell allegedly fled the deputy, hitting 100 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone through the town.

A deputy in a pursuit car joined the chase, the report said, and the chase continued down U.S. 701, S.C. 410, and S.C. 646. The driver stopped the vehicle and fled into a wooded area in Horry County, the report said.

An adult male and an adult female, along with Bell’s three-year-old nephew, were passengers in the car. The boy was not restrained in a child safety seat, the report said. The adults identified Bell as the driver. A check of the tag on the Lexus showed that it was actually the correct tag.

Deputies from Columbus and Horry searched the area, but could not find Bell. He was taken into custody this week and brought to North Carolina to face charges.
