A car was destroyed and a home damaged on Hoover Road early Friday in what investigators think could have been a “targeted attack.”

Deputies were called t0 737 Hoover Road around 1:15 a.m. to a structure fire, according to a report with the Columbus county Sheriff’s Office. Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire-Rescue was on the scene battling a vehicle fire.

The homeowner and residents were outside. The homeowner told deputies that they were awakened by gunfire, then discovered the car was burning in a garage under his bedroom. Multiple bulletholes were found in the wall and window, the report said.

“The concentration of the shots suggests a possible targeted attack,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said, “however, the victim has stated that they have no known issues with anyone that would warrant such an incident.”

Deputies did not find any shell casings at the scene. The investigation is continuing.
