Donita Faye Hewett Taylor

November 13, 1953 – September  9, 2024

Donita Faye Hewett Taylor, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, age 70, passed away on September 9, 2024.  Donita was born on November 13, 1953, and was the daughter of the late Rifton and Verbee Andrews Hewett.  She was a lifelong resident of Ash, NC, where she owned and operated Donita’s Beauty Shop for many years.

Her family worked the land and plied the waterways of Brunswick County and the lower eastern seaboard with their shrimp boats for generations.  She lived on the family farm which is a designated Century Farm in the state of North Carolina.

Donita loved making “Stamping Up” cards and projects for the school classes of her daughter and her grandsons.  She loved flowering plants; canning and freezing wild caught shrimp, butterbeans, peas, and corn: making jams and pickles.  She took great joy in feeding her friends and family her fried shrimp and fried cornbread.  She knew no strangers, and everyone was welcomed to sit down to a lovingly prepared meal at her home.  Donita dearly loved her family and friends.  Her kindness, love, and joy will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Donita is predeceased by her paternal grandparents Jacob Melvin and Carrie Ellen Gray Hewett; maternal grandparents John Daniel and Blanche Carlisle Andrews; her nephew, Danny Hewett, Jr. (Kim) and Blake Hewett.

Donita is survived by her husband Fred; her daughter, Hollie and husband Scott Pritchard; her grandsons, Tanner and Taylor Pritchard; her twin brother Mitchell (Bunk) Hewett; her older brother Danny (Toe) Hewett and wife Loretta; her nephews, Scott Hewett, Ryan Hewett and Jacob Hewett; her niece, Devan Hewett Grimes; her stepson, Gant Taylor and children Melanie and Jonathan Taylor; her cousins, Terry Ward and Carl Ward and wife Debbie.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 2:00pm at Zion Missionary Baptist Church with family visitation held two hours prior to the service.  Internment will be in Griffin Cemetery immediately following the service.

Pallbearers are Scott Hewett, Ryan Hewett, Jacob Hewett, Cain Ward, Cole Ward, and Mason Ward.  Honorary pallbearers are James Brown, John Caison, Shelton Caison, and Chris Robinson.

In lieu of flower, the family asks that donations be made to Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2668 Whiteville Rd NW, Ash, NC  28420.
