Elbert Gordon Holloman, 84, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, at Columbus Regional Healthcare Hospital after a period of declining health and a recent illness. While his loved ones mourn their earthly loss, they find solace in knowing Gordon has found new life in the welcoming arms of Jesus.
Born on January 28, 1940, in Columbus County to the late Charlie and Gertrude Holloman, Gordon graduated from Hallsboro High School. He shared over 66 years of marriage with Betty Mills Holloman, a testament to his dedication and commitment. He took immense pride in his children, Danny and Belinda. A man of deep faith, Gordon was respected for his kindness and gentle nature. He loved unconditionally and was always willing to help friends and strangers in need.
For over 50 years, Gordon was an active member of the Hallsboro Church of God, contributing in various ways, including assisting with church repairs, singing in the choir, performing solos, and participating in regular services. Gordon enjoyed fishing, gardening, carpentry, and tinkering around the house. His professional life included work with furniture companies Thayer Coggin and Thomasville Chair, serving as a fireman with the Thomasville Fire Department, and ultimately retiring from DuPont.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Mills Holloman; son, Danny Holloman; daughter, Belinda (Brandon) Collins; grandson, Caleb Collins; sister, Mary (Wayne) Barnhill; brother, Jimmy (Judy) Holloman; and special long-time family friend, David Heid. In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his son, Franklin, and brother, Stancil Holloman.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 8, 3:00 PM–5:00 PM at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville, NC. A Homegoing service, with Reverend Danny Williams officiating, will be held Monday, September 9, 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Peacock Funeral Home.
