High Speed Chase Ends at Prior Crime Scene

Sasser, Faulk and Lewis (CCSO)

Deputies had deja vu after arresting two female suspects and the resident on a variety of charges at a Shug Norris Road home over the course of three days. One suspect allegedly led law enforcement on a 100 mile per hour chase from Hallsboro while returning to the home where she had been arrested 48 hours before.

Preston Sasser Jr. (CCSO)

Preston Sasser Jr., 44, initially called 911 to report that his stepdaughter Bethany Harvey Faulk, 27, was impaired, and had assaulted and threatened him at 408 Shug Norris Road. When Deputy C. Wilson arrived, Faulk was allegedly holding a “long wooden pole” and threatening Sasser. Wilson told her to drop the pole, the report said, but she refused to comply. Wilson then drew his Taser and warned her again.

Faulk dropped the pole, but became combative. She was eventually placed in handcuffs in the deputy’s patrol car.

Sasser reported to the deputy that Faulk had attacked him with a baseball bat after being told to leave the property, then returned and was using the pole to break windows out of the home. Around $400 damage was reported to the siding, a window, and two doors at the home.

Bethany Harvey Faulk (CCSO)

While Wilson was interviewing Sasser, Faulk allegedly lit a marijuana cigarette in the patrol car and began smoking it.

The sheriff’s office reported that multiple 911 calls were made from the Shug Norris location between 1:30 and 4:30 a.m. Sasser called 911 five times to report Faulk damaging property, according to the report.

“Due to the repeated and unnecessary use of the 911 system, deputies responded to the location to arrest Mr. Sasser on charges of misuse of 911,” the report said.

Sasser was arrested Aug. 30 on a charge of assault on a female, according to detention center reports.

Justice Lewis (CCSO)

When deputies arrived to arrest Sasser, they encountered Justice Denea Lewis, 27. She had been present during the incidents involving Faulk, the report said, and told to stay away from the property. Lewis was also taken into custody.

Deputies ended up in a high speed chase pursuing Faulk as she raced back to the property Sunday morning.

A report said Deputy J. Reaves was conducting speeding enforcement on U.S. 74 near Hallsboro Road when he saw a white Chevrolet Impala heading west at 87 miles per hour. Reaves activated his blue lights and siren, but the car, driven by Faulk did not stop.

Faulk accelerated and headed west on U.S. 74, weaving through traffic, ignoring several stop signs and traffic lights as she turned off the Intrastate. At one point the car struck a concrete wall on Peacock Road, the report said.
Faulk was stopped after she turned into the driveway at 408 Shug Norris – where she was previously arrested Aug. 29.

“Upon arrest, it became evident that Ms. Faulk was under the influence of alcohol, displaying slurred speech, red glassy eyes, and an odor of alcohol on her breath,” the report said.

An empty alcohol bottle was found in the car, along with a marijuana grinder.

At the magistrate’s office, the report said, Faulk refused to take a Breathalyzer, but allegedly told deputies “I am drunk as (expletive).”

In the first case, Faulk was held under $1,500 secured bond, and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, property damage and misdemeanor marijuana possession. Her address was listed as 3601 Maco Road NE, Leland. After the second incident, Faulk was held under no bond, charged with driving while impaired, fleeing to elude arrest, second degree trespassing, multiple traffic violations, drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. She was initially booked as Bethany Adrianna Harvey, but when she was processed the second time  she was listed as Bethany Adrianna Harvey Faulk.

Lewis was charged with second degree trespassing and released on a written promise to appear in court. Her address was listed as 3568 Blue Banks Rd., Leland.

Sasser was charged with misuse of 911, and released on a written promise.
