Last Two Columbus Roads Repaired

The last of nearly twenty damaged or blocked roadways in Columbus have been repaired in the wake of Monday’s rain event.

Livingston Chapel Road and Old Lake Road at Woodyard in Sandyfield have been repaired and are back in full service. Andrew Barksdale of the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDDOT) said the crews cleared the scenes around noon today (Sept. 19).

The shoulder saw some scouring on Old Lake, according to NCDrive.gov, and Livingston Chapel had a lane closure while repairs were made on a perennial trouble spot.

Around a foot of rain fell in the eastern end of the county during Monday’s storm, flooding or washing out numerous roads in Columbus. Brunswick County was the hardest hit by the torrential rains, with some roads remaining closed.

Officials are eying rising water in the southern end of the county, where the Waccamaw River is more than a foot above flood stage and rising. The National Weather Service said Crusoe Island Road, Old Dock Road, Kingstown, Reaves Ferry, Rivergate and Horseshoe Road Northwest are likely to see some water on the roadways today.
