The shooting victim who crashed into a utility pole last week has been released from the hospital, and one suspect has been charged in connection to the case.
Cameron Arthur Baldwin, 18, was apparently transporting himself to Columbus Regional when he crashed into a pole in the 200 block of Madison Street, Lt. Andre Jackson of the Whiteville Police said. Police, fire and rescue responded to the 11:30 p.m. crash. Baldwin was airlifted to New Hanover with serious injuries.
Moments before, police were called to the 300 block of West Burkhead Street to a report of shots fired. They found bloody clothing and fired shell casings from multiple weapons at the scene.
Jamarion Shipman Jackson, 18, was charged with larceny and robbery with a dangerous weapon, Jackson said. Detention center records show his address as 87 Berry Lane, Whiteville. He was released on an unsecured bond.
Jackson said additional charges are pending in the case.
