A Southport man caught attempting to have sex with a child will spend 30 years in prison, the district attorney’s office said.
Clayton Eagle entered a guilty plea today (Nov. 12) to ten counts of statutory rape of a child under 12 years of age. Eagle was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Tiffany Powers in a Brunswick County courtroom.
Eagle was arrested after a witness walked in on Eagle attempting to rape the victim in a storage building on N.C. 211 in Southport, according to testimony. Brunswick County detectives and the Carousel Center interviewed the victim, District Attorney Jon David said. It was discovered that Eagle had been repeatedly raping the child for around 18 months. He eventually admitted to acts.
When Eagle is released from prison, he will be subject to satellite monitoring and must register as a sex offender.
David thanked the BCSO and the Carousel Center for their work on the case.
