Anthony S. Godwin

March 22, 1989 ~ December 31, 2024 (age 35)

 

Master Trooper Anthony Godwin passed away on December 31, 2024. Anthony is the husband of Heather Tyree Godwin and father to Landry Godwin and Grayanna Godwin. He found life’s joy in his family.

Anthony and Heather are true high school sweethearts. Married for eleven years, their love was evident to anyone that met them. They started their family in 2017 and from the moment he became a father, Anthony went above and beyond for his children. You could always find him with Landry going on hunting trips, fishing tips, barber shop visits, and PlayStation battles or with his daughter playing or taking naps together. He was a family man and if he was not with his family, he was somewhere hunting. Anthony truly loved the sport and especially when he was able to go on hunts with his friends.

You could always depend on him in whatever situation arose. He would give all he had to the ones he loved. Anthony was a hard worker. From his first job at Food Lion in Whiteville where he met his wife Heather, to his career as a State Trooper, Anthony was dependable, reliable, and always did his best receiving many awards and accolades.

Sheriff Bill Roger’s made the following statement: ”Master Trooper Anthony Godwin exemplified what it means to serve with integrity and compassion. His commitment to safety and justice made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him, and his loss is deeply felt by all of us in law enforcement. We stand with his family, friends, and fellow troopers during this incredibly difficult time.”

Anthony attended Southeastern Community College where he obtained his Associate’s degree in criminal justice and continued to The University of North Carolina at Pembroke to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in Sociology. Anthony began working as a State Trooper in 2012 in Cumberland County. He then worked in Brunswick County, followed by Columbus.

Anthony leaves behind a wife, Heather Godwin, seven year old son Landry Godwin and two year old daughter Grayanna Godwin. Parents Andy and Gwen Godwin of Crusoe, brother Zachary Godwin also of the home. Brother Chris Ray (Melissa, Mandelyn) Sister Kelly Godwin (Owen Tedder) In-laws Robin and Wendy Tyree and brother-in-law Trevor Tyree and fiancee Isabella Gebhart of New Mexico and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceded in death by maternal grandparents Levy and Doris Packer of Lake Waccamaw. Paternal grandparents Cecil and Lucille Godwin of Crusoe.Obituary Image

A memorial service will be Saturday, January 4th, 2025 at 11AM in the Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church, Chadbourn, NC. Visitation will be from 9:45 am until 10:45 am in the church sanctuary. Immediately following the memorial service, there will be Masonic Rites performed at Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery, 9237 James B. White Hwy S, Whiteville, NC.
