SCC Student Hurt After Dropping Firearm

A Southeastern Community College student sustained an accidental gunshot wound Wednesday when a firearm fell from the student’s vehicle.

SCC said in a press release that no other students or staff were injured or were endangered.

SCC Prudent Chris English said in the release that emergency personnel responded immediately, and the individual was transported to Columbus Regional Healthcare for treatment.

“No other individuals were involved, and at no time was there an active threat to students, faculty, or staff. SCC is fully cooperating with local law enforcement in their investigation,” English said in the release.

“The safety and well-being of our campus community remain our top priority. SCC is reviewing policies and procedures to ensure the continued safety of all students, employees, and visitors.”
