Soles Gets Life in Murder

A shooting in the Green Acres community has resulted in a life sentence for a Columbus County man.

Marty Devane Soles, 28, formerly of Sandy Drive, Tabor City, was found guilty of first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and attempted armed robbery on Tuesday in Columbus County Superior Court. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole by Superior Court Judge Gale Adams.

On March 2, 2020, deputies were called to Pine Circle Drive in Green Acres to a report of a shooting. Tony Clayburn was found dead near the roadway from a single gunshot wound, according to a press release.

Soles was identified as the suspect in the case, and investigator worked with the FBI to trace Soles to Murrells Inlet, S.C., where he was apprehended by U.S. Marshals. Soles was traced through telephone records which also placed him at the scene at the time of the murder. An eyewitness described to the court seeing Soles shoot Clayburn.
