Southern States Chemical is pleased to announce that the company’s Wilmington site won two major safety awards in 2024, including the CSX Chemical Safety Excellence Award as well as the North Carolina Department of Labor Gold Safety Award.
“Congratulations to Southern States Chemical team members in Wilmington on earning these two impressive awards, which recognize our team’s exceptional commitment to safety,” said Key Compton, President of Southern States Chemical. “We’re deeply grateful for these honors and will continue to prioritize safety in 2025 and beyond.”
CSX Corporation recognized Southern States Chemical with the CSX Chemical Safety Excellence Award, marking the seventh consecutive year that the Wilmington site earned this national award. This distinguished recognition is reserved for CSX customers who shipped at least 600 carloads with zero non-accidental releases of regulated hazardous materials shipments on the CSX network during the calendar year.
“On this, the 30th anniversary for recognizing this outstanding safety achievement, I want to personally thank you for your shared commitment to safety,” said Kevin Boone, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at CSX Transportation. “I would also like to acknowledge your employees’ dedication that resulted in the safe loading and unloading of shipments and proper car maintenance.”
In addition, Southern States Chemical’s Wilmington site was recognized by the N.C. Department of Labor for the second year with a Gold Safety Award. This award recognizes the fact that team members worked more than 51,000 hours without an injury in 2023. Members of Southern States Chemical’s Wilmington team attended a special banquet earlier this year to receive the award in person.
