Truck Crashes Into Gas Pumps After Wild Ride

The driver of a heavy duty pickup towing a trailer left a trail of debris in South Whiteville that ended with a standoff at the Murphy gas station on Powell Boulevard tonight.
Witnesses said the truck struck several vehicles, and possibly a pedestrian, before smashing several gas pumps round 6 p.m.
The driver reportedly barricaded himself in the store for a short time. He was taken into custody without injury.
This is a developing story. We have reached out to Whiteville Police for more information.

Update from Whiteville Police: one occupant of a vehicle was hurt. Multiple vehicles were damaged. The suspect is being evaluated at an area hospital. Charges are pending. Whiteville Police were assisted by Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, Chadbourn Police, and Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.
