Good afternoon, Meteorologist Christopher Cawley here with the weather update for Tuesday December 3, 2024.
BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES across Columbus County tonight. With clear skies and calm winds, and a deep snowpack to our north, temperatures will plunge into the middle and upper teens across the county tonight. Temperatures at the bus stop tomorrow morning will be between 16-20 degrees.
Dry weather will continue through the foreseeable future as strong high pressure slips off the coast. Another Arctic blast begins late Thursday night thanks to a strong, but dry, cold frontal passage.
Normal highs this time of year are in the upper 50s with normal lows in the lower to middle 30s.
The second Arctic blast will be short-lived as a bit of a change in the overall weather pattern takes place. Much warmer temps are likely Sunday into Monday… highs possibly reaching the lower 70s on Monday. Longer-range modeling indicates a fairly significant rainy system to impact much of the eastern third of the country early next week. It’s too early to make any calls but there is the chance for a healthy rainfall to occur early next week. The Climate Prediction Center is calling for a return to above-normal temperatures for the period December 11-17, with above-normal precipitation chances.
That’ll do it for today’s update. PLEASE make sure those kiddos are dressed properly tomorrow morning, as it will be bitterly cold (by Carolina standards).
