Weather Update – Thursday December 26, 2024

Hello readers, Meteorologist Christopher Cawley here with your CCN Weather Update for Thursday December 26, 2024.

Strong high pressure will remain locked in place over our area into Saturday. As the high pushes off the coast on Friday, temperatures quickly warm above normal into the weekend.

Thursday will be seasonable with plenty of sunshine on tap across the county. You can expect highs to run in the middle to perhaps upper 50s with light winds.

Lows on Thursday night/early Friday should be in the upper 30s.

Then a warm-up begins as that high pushes offshore. Friday will feature plenty of sunshine with highs going into the lower 60s… and we’ll add on another 10 degrees for Saturday. Saturday will be a gorgeous day with a mix of sunshine and clouds and highs in the lower to middle 70s, so get out and enjoy it.

Meanwhile a low pressure system will be taking shape over the middle of the country and moving slowly eastward. A little frontal boundary along the coast may be the trigger for some showers Saturday night, but the bigger frontal boundary will move through from west to east on Sunday. Sunday looks like it will be a fairly rainy day with scattered to numerous showers and possibly some thunder. Model blends show an average of between 0.75″ and 1.25″ of rainfall Saturday night through Sunday… although this will likely be tweaked a bit as we get closer to the weekend.

Monday will likely be dry as we’ll be “in between” weather systems. The latest European modeling shows a rather impressive low pressure center lifting from the Mississippi Valley on New Year’s Eve to the Jersey coast on New Year’s Day. This would drag a strong cold front across the area likely on Tuesday.

LONG RANGE modeling shows a downward turn in temperatures as we go through the first week of the New Year, with temps running considerably below seasonal averages… with indications that this colder-than-normal period could extend deep into January. Combine this with “average” precipitation chances… if we’re going to get snow or frozen precip this season, early to mid January could be the time.

Ok, that’ll do it for today. Thank you for reading and supporting Columbus County News, and as always, take care.
